West FL Surf Forecast And News
Sunday 9am 9/7/08 Weekly Outlook Ike Forecast: What I'm thinking this morning: Probrecito cubanos, no lesmerecen nada de eso (they really don't deserve this). Fidel, Raul and now Ike. Cat 4 gonna tour your Island, that stinks... We're gonna see a reduced Ike enter the gulf mid-week. About 12-16 hours after that we should start seeing some swell in the 2-3ft range from the SSW. Then as Ike slows and rebuilds in the central gulf we could see larger surf from the SW in the 4-6ft range.
Three different scenarios at that point: I'll save the best for last;
1> Follows the ridge right towards LA like Gustav, good surf for us, no worries.
2. Catches the trough and turns back towards Florida, bad for us, surf or board up?
3. Dream Case: Slows and strenthens in the middle gulf throwing good swell at us for the days at the end of the week. I like scenario three for a number of reasons(thinking Juan in 85' the 10 day producer). Come on Ike, take it easy on Cuba and don't make me look stupid. Next forecast: Wenesday.
Friday 9/6/08 A note on Ike: September highs in the N Atlantic can be pretty strong. Did you notice that in the wake of Gustav our rainy season 08' ended? We may still get some rain here and there but the every day thing is gone. The pattern has changed. 10 Day MRF showing a massive Atlantic high building in for the long term(which is extremely common for this time of year). Wether that arrives in time to push Ike out into the gulf remains to be seen but I would not be suprised to see the track eventually get pushed west. This from the NHC: "A KEY UNKNOWN FOR THE 3-5 DAY FORECAST IS HOW
STRONG THAT RIDGE WILL BE AND HOW LONG IT WILL REMAIN INTACT." It's gonna be trough vs. ridge in the long term on what powerful Ike brings for Florida. Too early to make a call but I'm hoping for a gulf track and swell rather than a pounding of Florida which is still looking like a solid possibility.
